The fundamental right to education is not merely a matter of worldview or a game of legal paragraphs – it is much more than that. It is a right that plays a decisive role in a person’s development and in the fulfillment of their dreams. It must be kept in mind, however, that the interpretation of the fundamental right to education is multifaceted. People are different: we have different backgrounds, needs, and opportunities.
On 29 October 2025, the Office of the Chancellor of Justice hosted an international seminar addressing the spread of extremist attitudes toward gender roles among young people. The discussion focused on concerns that such views may endanger gender equality and social cohesion.
The right to education is a fundamental right. A child has the right to study at their local school, and obtaining a school place must not be an exhausting and months-long effort and source of stress. If it is, then something is wrong with the system, writes Atko-Madis Tammar.

On May 7–8, advisors from the Children and Youth Rights Department of the Office of the Chancellor of Justice participated in the annual meeting of the Baltic and Polish Children's Ombudsmen in Vilnius. It became clear that the issue of mobile device use in school environments is relevant in all countries.

This week, the Head of the Department for Children's and Youth Rights attended the ENOC board meeting in Brussels and held discussions with the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Eva Kopacz, the European Commission's Children's Rights Coordinator, Marie-Cécile Rouillon, and the President of Eurochild, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca. 

According to the Chancellor of Justice, the Social Insurance Board must pay the guardian’s child support if the court has deprived or suspended the parents' custody rights and appointed a guardian for the child.

The Office of the Chancellor of Justice, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice, organized a training course "Children of Parents in Prison: Their Rights and Needs" for prison officers, probation officers, specialists working in the field of child protection, and policymakers.
