On February 3rd, at the Office of the Chancellor of Justice, Chancellor of Justice Ülle Madise and Widen Legal law firm partner Oliver Nääs discussed legality and the burden of proof at an event organized by the Estonian Law Students' Union.

Madise focused on regrettable practices in administrative proceedings, where the discretion of officials is increasingly applied instead of clear legal norms. Nääs, on the other hand, provided examples from criminal and judicial proceedings, highlighting instances where greater legal clarity was needed to protect the rights of defendants and those under investigation.
Among the nearly 60 attendees, there were many engaged questioners.
Such discussion evenings are one of the outcomes of the good cooperation between the Estonian Law Students' Union and the Chancellor of Justice. In previous years, future lawyers have also met with the President's legal advisor Hent Kalmo and former Chancellor of Justice Allar Jõks in this format.
