Chancellor of Justice presented her Annual Report before the Riigikogu

On 22 September 2015, at the sitting of the Riigikogu, Ülle Madise presented her Annual Report on the performance of activities of the Chancellor of Justice in 2014 and in the first eight months of 2015. 

In her report, the Chancellor of Justice focused on five topics, citing examples from different areas: availability of free quality basic education, Internet freedom and protection of fundamental rights on the Internet; the situation in secure facilities; control of funding for political parties; and the organisation of legislative drafting and the courage of civil society to have a say therein.

In the course of the first eight months of 2015, the Chancellor of Justice worked on 995 applications, letters and queries. All documents have been published on the website of the Chancellor of Justice, unless prohibited or restricted by law. The nearly one thousand inquiries are divided under different headings. Control of constitutionality of legal provisions. Opinions for the Riigikogu in matters concerning supervision of constitutionality. Assessment of the situation in 150 secure facilities. Securing of fundamental rights in the Defence Forces, as well as in houses of detention, detention centres for foreigners, special care homes, so-called specialised schools, shelters, psychiatric hospitals, etc. Attitudes of institutions towards people, i.e. following the practice of good administration. Protection and development of children's and youth rights. Disciplinary liability of judges. Protection of fundamental rights on the Internet and Internet freedom. And a lot more.
